Korea's latest young and rising prodigy of the Kayageum (or Gayageum-the Korean 12 string zither) makes her Bay Area debut at the Asian Art Museum's Samsung Hall. She follows in the famous foot steps of Kayageum master Byung Ki-Hwang who performed the opening night concert of the SF International Festival in May 2005.

Korea's latest young and rising prodigy of the Kayageum (or Gayageum-the Korean 12 string zither) makes her Bay Area debut at the Asian Art Museum's Samsung Hall. She follows in the famous foot steps of Kayageum master Byung Ki-Hwang who performed at the opening night concert of the SF International Festival in May 2005.

Han, Rae-Sook, a Kayageum player, was born at Gongju City, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea in 1981. She took piano lessons as a mere child of 5years old and began to learn Korean classical music at age 6. In 2000, she graduated from National Korean Music High School and was admitted to the dept. of Korean classical music, College of Music at Seoul National University. After graduation from the college of music, Seoul National University in 2004, she became a graduate student of the same university. She was awarded the special prize at Students Music Contest sponsored by the Music Association of Korea, the grand prize at the National Hanbat Kayageum Contest, and the gold prize at the National Chungju Kayageum Contest, respectively. She had had the provincial performance in Japan and the USA and had Gayageum solo recital for two times. She had performed at the Subscription Concert of Music College, Seoul National University, and the orchestra of the National Classical Music Institute jointly. At present she is the Kayageum player of Sungnam Municipal Korean Classical Music Orchestra and acts as the regular member of Asia "Keum(heptachord)" Exchange Association.
